Many people are completely unaware that candles can be toxic to pets... and humans!
Most candles on the market are made from paraffin wax, which is a cheaper alternative to soy. Paraffin wax is derived from petroleum, and when burned, it can release harmful substances into the air that may contribute to headaches, nausea and respiratory irritation. Over time, exposure to certain candle ingredients has also been linked to hormone disruption due to the synthetic fragrance oils often used.
But it’s not only about the wax… there are many fragrance oils that can be harmful to both pets and people. Ingredients such as pine, ylang-ylang & tea tree, to name a few, can be particularly toxic to pets, causing symptoms ranging from excessive drooling and vomiting to more serious health issues.
We realised that over the years we had bought so many candles and diffusers and never thought once about the effects they could have on our health or our dog’s, Biscuit… So we set out on a mission to create products that are safer for both pets and people.
Our carefully selected oils are made from the highest quality ingredients, and are 100% vegan and cruelty free!
With all this, we created candles that are pet-friendly, and FROM THE ISLAND was launched in 2022… with Biscuit's ears as our logo.
Our hearts were broken when we had to say goodbye to our girl Biscuit on the 26th October, 2022 at nearly 16 years old. We hope we continue to make her proud of us and she is quite literally living on through us. We've since adopted 3 cats. They have taken over Biscuit's role of product control… All orders will be inspected by our bossy girl Mazikeen before making their way to you!
We aim to fill homes with our safe and unique candles… whilst educating pet parents along the way!
